Carnegie Towers changes hands

Apr 14, 2015

Carnegie Towers has a new owner that borough officials think is committed to making “significant upgrades” to the federally-subsidized apartment building.

Capital Realty Group of Spring Valley, N.Y., purchased the 10-story, 176-unit housing complex on March 10. They could not be reached for comment. Officials at Carnegie Towers declined to comment.

The 1.8-acre property is located on Capitol Street in Carnegie.

County real-estate records show the property was assessed at $2.2 million. The previous owners, Carnegie Towers Holdings LP, purchased the building in 2009.

“The reputation of this group is extremely strong,” Mayor Jack Kobistek said.

Kobistek says residents can expect a more hands-on management approach.

The property has averaged 36 calls for service a month to Carnegie police this year. However, police officials said, that number is lower than in previous years.

Representatives from the New York group reached out to Kobistek and police Chief Jeff Kennedy prior to purchasing the property.

“We highlighted past issues, and this group is working on adjustments that will address these issues,” Kobistek said.

Kennedy said he is confident the change in ownership will be a positive one.

“We are working with the owner, and he seems very eager to make changes to the living conditions and security,” he said.

Kennedy and Kobistek declined to comment on specifics until plans have been discussed more.
